At UFC 314 on April 12th 2025, Volkanovski and Lopes are set to clash in Miami, marking Volkanovski’s return after a 14-month layoff following his knockout defeat to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. “The Great” is aiming to become a two-time champion, though many expected his chance would come in a rematch against Topuria.
However, Diego Lopes, one of the hottest contenders in the division outside of “El Matador,” has surged into the title picture with an impressive five wins in 13 months. His most recent victory was a dominant three-round performance against Brian Ortega at UFC 306. Despite being less than two years into his UFC career, Lopes now gets a shot at the title against arguably the greatest featherweight of all time.
The former featherweight champion finds himself in unfamiliar territory after suffering consecutive knockout losses and dropping three of his last four fights. However, the relentless 36-year-old has beaten everyone except Topuria and Islam Makhachev and is eager to reclaim his title after more than a year away from the Octagon.
Also featured on the card are two intriguing matchups. Liverpool’s Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett faces his toughest test yet against former lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler. Pimblett, fresh off his best Octagon performance—a first-round submission of King Green at UFC 304—is undefeated at 6-0 since his debut in September 2021. Now 30, the rising star has a chance to establish himself as a serious contender at 155 pounds if he can overcome “Iron.”
