Umar Nurmagomedov Targets Petr Yan Title Fight Ahead of UFC 324 Clash With Deiveson Figueiredo
Umar Nurmagomedov is making his comeback this Saturday on the UFC 324 preliminary card against Deiveson Figueiredo. In his last bout, the Dagestani beat Mario Bautista in order to bounce back from his previous loss.
Going into this bout, Nurmagomedov is a fan favourite to beat the former flyweight champion. It seems like Nurmagomedov is already looking past Figueiredo and aiming for a future title opportunity.
Last month, the bantamweight division went through a massive change after Petr Yan beat Merab Dvalishvili to take the belt. It was a surprising performance. In a recent interview, Umar Nurmagomedov shared that he had predicted Yan would win and now wants to fight the Russian.
“My prediction was Petr, you know. Merab fought a lot in one year, and it’s not easy. But for me, it doesn’t matter. I just want to win this fight, and after that, even if I’m not next in line, I want to fight again,” said Umar Nurmagomedov via Paramount UFC.
Umar Nurmagomedov rose rapidly in the bantamweight division, while fans and experts accused him of receiving special treatment due to Khabib Nurmagomedov. During his title fight against Dvalishvili, Umar was dominated and humiliated by the relentless Georgian.
Umar Nurmagomedov wanted revenge against Dvalishvili, but it now appears he will probably face Petr Yan instead. Although both fighters hail from Russia, there is genuine tension and growing rivalry between the two bantamweight superstars.

Umar Nurmagomedov predicts Sean O’Malley vs. Song Yadong
In the main card of 324, Sean O’Malley will take on Song Yadong in a much-anticipated bantamweight clash. It will be O’Malley’s first bout since losing two title bouts against Merab Dvalishvili. In a recent interview, Umar Nurmagomedov shared his prediction for the clash.
“I think O’Malley will win. He’s taller than Yadong. They’re going to be striking, and I think he’s going to control this,” Umar Nurmagomedov continued.
O’Malley plans to dominate Song Yadong convincingly, then demand a high-profile rematch against the bantamweight champion Petr Yan. With Nurmagomedov targeting the same opportunity, the title picture is competitive, making it difficult for UFC matchmakers.
