Islam Makhachev has established himself as one of the most successful MMA fighters in the history of the UFC. The pound-for-pound king previously won the lightweight title and continued that same dominance over the welterweight division.
The fighter recently beat Anderson Silva‘s incredible 16-fight win streak record by beating Ian Garry in his last outing. However, there have been some conspiracy theories surrounding the fighter’s potential use of PEDs.

Islam Makhachev fought King Green back in February 2022, where he TKOed the UFC veteran in the first round. Following that, Green didn’t hold back and made some serious allegations towards Makhachev and his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Islam got caught for drugs when he first came… Khabib and Islam, they go to a mosque, they train in a place you can’t go, you can’t come to us for months. They can do whatever they want to do,” said King Green via The Jaxxon Podcast.

Islam Makhachev had a positive drug test in 2016, when USADA flagged him for meldonium, a prohibited substance. However, USADA ultimately found him “without fault or negligence,” and he received no suspension.
“This is what they do in our country. We’re a little bit different… We want to take everything from everybody. In their country, they want to make [people] big, strong, harder, tougher, so it’s a little murky, you know,” King continued.

Makhachev has faced accusations of PED and IV use from fighters and commentators, although no established steroid violation has been recorded against him officially. Meanwhile, other Dagestani fighters have faced confirmed anti-doping violations, contributing to broader speculation surrounding PED use within the region.
Dana White still salty about Ian Garry’s performance against Islam Makhachev
In Islam Makhachev’s last Octagon outing at UFC 330, the fighter took on top contender Ian Garry. The fight was close and Makhachev failed to finish Garry but won the fight via unanimous decision.
In the early rounds, Garry was able to keep Makhachev in check but in the later rounds completely threw away his game plan. In a recent interview, Dana White doubled down on his stance and criticised Garry for lack of urgency.
“I felt like Ian Garry in that fifth round, you have this opportunity. You’re fighting possibly the greatest fighter of all time. And you did a damn good job for four rounds… Now you’re the younger, bigger, rangier fighter. You just fought four incredible rounds. Get out there and put it on. You go out and start shaking his hands and hugging him and do that when they’re strapping the belt on you,” said Dana White via The Diary of Ace.
Dana White criticized Ian Garry for not going all-out in the fifth round against Islam Makhachev, saying he had five minutes to shock the world but didn’t seize the moment.

” Show Islam all the love you want when the fight’s over. This is the fifth round. You have five minutes to shock the world… and you didn’t do it,” White continued.
