Recently, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney expressed his interest in stepping into the boxing ring for an exhibition fight.

Wayne Rooney has reportedly been in discussions with Misfits Boxing, the popular crossover boxing promotion founded by YouTube star KSI. The former English captain mentioned potential matchups against Jake Paul or KSI but has yet to make any official commitment. Rooney clarified that entering the boxing world is merely a fun idea for now, not a serious career move.

“No, you get asked to go and do misfits and all that and… I think some of the… like you look at Jake Paul now, and he’s a good boxer. He’s very good. KSI too as well and whatever, but for me, it’s just a bit of fun and mess around, yeah,” said Wayne Rooney.

Rooney trained as a boxer during his younger years and believes it greatly contributed to his strength and conditioning. He often credits boxing for improving his endurance, balance, and overall physical readiness throughout his successful Premier League career. Last year in February, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn discussed the exciting potential of a Rooney versus Jake Paul crossover fight. He emphasized that such a matchup would attract global attention, given Rooney’s popularity and Paul’s growing influence in combat sports. During his footballing prime, Rooney’s fierce aggression and determination made fans curious about how he might perform in boxing.

Meanwhile, Paul has solidified his name in boxing and is currently on a six-fight winning streak against notable opponents. The YouTube star-turned-boxer continues to surprise critics and is now set to face Gervonta Davis in November. Scheduled for November 15, the fight carries enormous hype, with fans eagerly anticipating who emerges victorious in this blockbuster event.
