For weeks, the hype surrounding Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul has been mixed with skepticism. Many fans questioned whether this matchup was a genuine professional fight or simply a money-grab spectacle. With a YouTuber-turned-boxer taking on a former unified heavyweight world champion, speculation grew that the bout might be scripted or softened for entertainment.
Anthony Joshua’s camp has now stepped forward to silence those rumors and reinforce the legitimacy of the December 19 showdown. Matchroom Sports CEO Frank Smith made it clear that the event is not an exhibition and not a fix in any form. The message is simple: Anthony Joshua is coming to knock Jake Paul out.

December 19 Will Be a Real Fight, Not a Show
Frank Smith spoke to Ariel Helwani, directly addressing the claims circulating online. He stated:
“AJ would not have taken it if that was the stance it had to be. If it was an exhibition, if it was ‘you have got to hold him up for eight rounds.’ It would not suit Anthony Joshua. Anthony Joshua is going in there to knock out Jake Paul. And that is what you will see on December 19.”
He further clarified the official nature of the bout, saying:
“It’s an eight round professional fight. No different to a normal professional fight.”
Even though the fight is set for only eight rounds—shorter than Joshua’s usual championship contests—Matchroom insists this is still a legitimate pro match with real consequences for both fighters’ careers. Joshua, chasing momentum and another title run, cannot afford to take Jake Paul lightly or treat this as a novelty event.
Jake Paul, on the other hand, enters the ring with the biggest challenge of his life. A win would shock the boxing world, while a loss may bring his heavyweight crossover ambitions into question.
As December 19 approaches, one thing is now clear. Team AJ isn’t here to play games. They are here to end Jake Paul’s night with a knockout and prove that this fight is as real as boxing gets.
