Colby Covington has taken legal action against Jorge Masvidal following their infamous altercation in 2022 outside a steakhouse in Miami. The lawsuit brings renewed attention to one of the most controversial off cage incidents in recent UFC history, long after their rivalry spilled beyond the octagon.
The incident occurred shortly after their fight at UFC 272, where Covington defeated Masvidal in a one sided contest. Weeks later, Masvidal allegedly approached Covington outside a restaurant and struck him, an encounter that quickly went viral and led to legal consequences.

Lawsuit details and claims from Covington
Covington is reportedly seeking $50,000 in damages, claiming the attack was motivated by Masvidal’s frustration following his loss. According to the lawsuit, Covington suffered multiple forms of damage as a result of the incident.
He alleges that he sustained a brain injury during the attack, along with physical disfigurement that required medical attention. The filing also includes financial losses, such as medical bills and lost income due to the aftermath of the incident.

In addition, Covington claims that a Rolex watch valued at $15,000 was damaged during the altercation, adding to the total damages he is seeking.
The case revives one of the UFC’s most heated rivalries, which was already deeply personal before the fight even took place. Once former teammates, the relationship between Covington and Masvidal deteriorated publicly, culminating in both their bout inside the cage and the alleged confrontation outside it.
With legal proceedings now in motion, the situation moves from personal rivalry to courtroom battle. While the fight between them may be over, the fallout from their feud continues to play out years later.
