“I Was Very Depressed”- Jon Jones Opens Up About How He Nearly Shot Himself With a Pistol

Jon Jones is undoubtedly one of the most popular and accomplished MMA fighters in the history of UFC. The fighter is often regarded as the GOAT for his incredible record of beating several legends and overall fighting talent.

The fighter has the most title fights and has dominated three generations of light heavyweights and heavyweights. Despite his controversial relationship with UFC and Dana White, Jones is still one of the biggest draws in the promotion.

However, before all this glory and success, Jones used to struggle with depression and was very close to ending his life. In a recent candid interview, ‘Bones’ opened up about his personal struggles in detail.

I had a day where I was crying. I was very depressed, and I had a pistol sitting next to me…I sat there crying for a while, and then I got a FaceTime call from a friend I hadn’t spoken to in a very long time. I truly feel as if God sent my friend to call me after years of not speaking to each other. That FaceTime call saved my life,” said Jon Jones via ALF GLOBAL.

Apart from all the glory, Jon Jones has definitely faced his share of criticism for his past history with PEDs. Many fight enthusiasts discard his legacy for his drug abuse and repeated run-ins with law enforcement.

While Jon Jones is the most decorated fighter in UFC, Conor McGregor is definitely the most influential in history. The Irishman single-handedly brought in millions of new fans to the sport, which helped in massive growth.

In a recent interview, McGregor talked about how he has achieved way more than Jones in his entire career. “Jon looks very soft there. Where’s he now? Here I am still. None of these boys, including Jon, are on my level. He’s got 8 knockouts, I’ve got 19,” said Conor McGregor via Complex.

McGregor recently made his UFC return following his huge four-year hiatus against Max Holloway. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as expected, and the ‘Notorious’ faced another knee injury, and the fight was stopped. It would be interesting to see whether the veteran ever decides to come back.
