“He Runs Too Much”- Islam Makhachev Takes Aim at Ian Garry’s Fighting Style Ahead of Their UFC 330 Title Clash
Islam Makhachev is scheduled to make his much-anticipated Octagon return in the main event of UFC 330. The pound-for-pound king will take on top contender Ian Garry in a five-round welterweight title showdown.
The event will take place on August 15, 2026, at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The hype surrounding it is massive, and fans are excited to witness the ongoing rivalry between the two fighters.
Ahead of the fight, Ian Garry has done everything, including training with former champion Charles Oliveira, to prepare for Makhachev. When asked about it in a recent interview, Makhachev provided detailed information about his opponent.
“I just have to run in this camp too much because I have to follow him. He runs too much. I know his game plan. What Charles Oliveira can teach him. Teach him how to tap fast. That’s it,” said Islam Makhachev via MMA Fighting.
Makhachev has already fought Charles Oliveira in the past and submitted him back at UFC 280, and is currently on a 15-fight win streak. Going against Garry, the Dagestani would like to keep his dominance and extend his legacy.

UFC veteran predicts Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Garry title fight
Before moving up, Islam Makhachev dominated the lightweight division and beat some of the biggest names. One of them was the legendary Dustin Poirier, who recently shared his opinion on the upcoming title fight.
Poirier lost the bout via submission and talked in detail about how he suffered on the feet against Makhachev. According to DP, Ian Garry could face the same at UFC 330.
“I didn’t want to plant and throw heavy shots as much l, because I didn’t want him to grab my leg… You get a little timid, and you wouldn’t throw the same shots you normally do because the takedown threat is so in front of you,” said Dustin Poirier via Deep Waters.
Garry is well aware of this threat and has been training his wrestling for months now, and is confident about his skills. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see whether the Irishman can pull off an upset at UFC 330.
