“Your Jealousy Runs Deep”- Jon Jones Fires Back at Daniel Cormier for Choosing Khabib Nurmagomedov as the GOAT

Jon Jones is one of the most successful fighters ever to compete inside the UFC Octagon, earning widespread recognition. The veteran competed against three generations of elite opponents, defeating nearly everyone while building a legacy many fans consider unmatched.

However, former two-division champion and longtime rival Daniel Cormier does not believe Jones should automatically be considered the GOAT. During a recent interview, Cormier argued that numerous legendary fighters made mistakes and suffered defeats throughout their careers, unlike Khabib Nurmagomedov.

According to DC, Nurmagomedov completed all 29 professional fights without making the costly errors that ultimately defined other fighters. Cormier’s comments referenced Jones’ infamous 2009 disqualification against Matt Hamill, where an illegal downward elbow resulted in his only defeat.

Jones quickly responded afterward, defending his accomplishments and emphasizing the achievements that have made him one of MMA’s greatest legends. “I started in the UFC so early that I didn’t even know what the rules were. The night I fought Matt was the first night I had ever even heard the term12-to-6.” Literally, my entire career has been in the main event, fighting for a world title,” wrote Jon Jones via Instagram.

In 2024, the UFC legalized 12-to-6 elbows, prompting Jon Jones to campaign for his infamous disqualification to be overturned. Although Jones wanted the defeat removed, officials did not change the result, leaving his record officially marked with one career loss.

Despite this setback, Jones has continued to present himself as one of MMA’s greatest fighters, while supporters point to his championship success and longevity. When Khabib Nurmagomedov became UFC’s pound-for-pound king during retirement, Jones contested the decision, while critics cite his controversies and drug-test history.

Jon Jones’ long-standing rivalry with Daniel Cormier

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have shared one of the most heated rivalries in UFC history, facing each other twice. Jones won both encounters, although their second fight was later overturned to a no contest following his positive PED test.

Despite their history, Cormier and Jones have occasionally shown mutual respect, while still trading jabs whenever opportunities arise publicly. Following Cormier’s latest controversial comments about Jones’ legacy, the former champion quickly responded, making his perspective and frustration clear.

My brother, Daniel Cormier, your jealousy runs so deep in your blood. I honestly pray that the good Lord heals you from your envy and that, one day, you won’t feel the need to do interviews like this. Until then, it’s flattering to see the passion you have when it comes to me,” Jon Jones continued.

Jones was expected to make his UFC return at the Freedom 250 event, but UFC CEO Dana White showed no interest. Now fans are excited about when the veteran will finally make his much-anticipated return.
