Sidekick Boxing owner Daniel Knight has praised Australian boxer Matty Floyd after he secured a high-profile exhibition fight against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, describing himself as proud to see the fighter finally land a major opportunity after years of pursuing crossover boxing matchups.
Knight has a history with Floyd, having previously been approached by the Australian for sponsorship. Their connection began when Floyd contacted Knight directly on WhatsApp after hearing about his involvement with Andrew Tate.
Floyd had learned that Knight had sponsored Tate and looked after him during his combat sports career, prompting him to reach out and establish a connection with the Sidekick Boxing owner.
However, according to Knight, their relationship became complicated after Tate’s team discovered that Floyd had contacted him. Knight claims members of the team attempted to turn Floyd against him by spreading rumours about him.
Despite the alleged attempts to create tension, Knight has continued to follow Floyd’s journey and is now delighted to see him secure an opportunity against one of boxing’s biggest names.

Daniel Knight reflects on Matty Floyd’s previous failed fight opportunities
Floyd had previously been linked with several high-profile crossover boxing matchups, including potential fights against Chase DeMoor and Tommy Fury. However, those opportunities failed to materialise, something Knight remembers from their previous conversations.
Speaking about Floyd finally getting the Mayweather fight, Knight said:
“It’s good that he got that Mayweather fight. He had come to me for sponsorship in the past and I knew they messed around with him for different fights like Chase and Tommy. I’m proud of him for landing the Mayweather fight.”
Floyd’s upcoming contest against Mayweather represents a major opportunity for the Australian, particularly after his previous attempts to secure fights against established crossover boxing names.
Mayweather, a former five-division world champion with an undefeated professional record of 50-0, brings enormous recognition to the matchup.
For Knight, however, the significance goes beyond the name of the opponent. Having known about Floyd’s pursuit of major fights and his previous sponsorship approach, he is pleased to see the Australian finally get the opportunity he has been chasing.
