There, the promotion returns to the stunning Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv, playing host to a one-night 8-man kickboxing Grand Prix in the 70kg bracket that will see a new champion crowned by the evening’s end and promises to be an unforgettable night of fights. 

The return to the Ancient Theatre follows last year’s trip in May 2025, where SENSHI 26 encapsulated the gladiatorial spirit in the Roman-era venue. That night, the main event saw Andrei Kedves take home the European lightweight championship with a third-round knockout of Bulgaria’s own Dragomir Petrov, along with 6 knockouts in 11 thrilling bouts from Vladislav Kanchev, veteran Francesco Xhaja and Surat Garayev.

SENSHI aims to continue embracing the roots of combat sports history inside the iconic venue, honouring the legendary arena’s hallowed grounds through one of the most stacked divisions in kickboxing. The occasion will also be marked by the appearances of several fighting legends in Ernesto Hoost, Andy Souwer, Semmy Schilt and Albert Kraus. 

The international promotion’s calendar promises five major tournaments throughout 2026, and the second of which goes down just over a month away. 

All the action goes down on 30th May, from 7:30pm EET/12:30pm EST. Tickets can be purchased online at Eventim.bg. Prices range from £18/€21 to £44/€51, including VIP packages, which are expected to sell fast.

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, personally reached out to Silva about competing. The offer included options for either an MMA fight or a kickboxing match on the card. But Silva declined immediately due to commitments outside combat sports that demand his attention right now.

“Nakisa invited me to come fight MMA or kickboxing. But because I’m in this process [of becoming a cop], I just said, ‘I can’t this time.’ But when I finish the whole thing, I will probably have one more [or] two more fights, only boxing. [I don’t] have a [mindset] anymore to [train in] MMA… It’s too hard for me to [go] back to training MMA.”

Silva shocked the combat sports world after knocking out Woodley by announcing his intention to become a police officer. He revealed plans to train with the Beverly Hills Police Department as a way to give back. That commitment represents a dramatic career shift for someone who spent decades perfecting martial arts skills. The training process apparently requires significant time and dedication that conflicts with fight camp preparations.

The former UFC champion also admitted that returning to full MMA training feels too difficult at this stage. He still trains jiu-jitsu daily and boxes twice weekly to maintain fitness levels. But the comprehensive training required for MMA seems beyond what he’s willing to commit. MMA demands proficiency in wrestling, kickboxing, submissions, and cardio simultaneously. That’s a massive undertaking for any 50-year-old athlete regardless of their legendary status.

Anderson Silva Still Has Two Fights Left Before Retiring

Anderson Silva made clear during the Helwani interview that his fighting days aren’t completely finished yet. He plans to compete twice more before hanging up his gloves permanently. Both fights would happen exclusively in boxing rather than MMA or kickboxing formats. Silva even named specific opponents he’d like to face for these final appearances.

“My last two, I think one good fight is with Chris Weidman. I think Hayato Sakurai, maybe. I don’t know [if he wants to] fight, but I think that’s two interesting fights for me.”

The Chris Weidman callout carries significant emotional weight given their shared history together. Weidman defeated Silva twice during their UFC careers at UFC 162 and UFC 168. The first fight ended Silva’s legendary title reign in shocking fashion with a second-round knockout. The rematch proved even more devastating when Silva broke his leg throwing a leg kick. The Uprising

Emanating from Bulgaria, SENSHI is a newfound kickboxing promotion that prides itself on its main qualities: bravery, respect and honour. From its birth in 2019, the Varna-based promotion has been rising through the ranks to find the greatest strikers across kickboxing and Kyoshokin karate from around Europe, which allows it to differ from many other promotions while providing athletes a chance to perform under a more modern-day rules set. 

It’s not uncommon for a promotion to attempt to run before it can walk. History suggests that causes the downfall for many new energetic shows. However, SENSHI has avoided following that tried and tested formula. Instead, they have bided their time, climbing the ranks and gathering momentum while using their social media presence, with over 190,000 followers across all platforms.  

Honouring The Legends

Priding themselves on athletes’ bravery, respect and honour, SENSHI is eager to disrupt the kickboxing realm and plant their foot as the future. At the same time, however, they have no issues honouring the fighters that laid the foundations.

In recent times, striking icons Ray Sefo, Sammy Schilt, Andy Souwer and Shihan Niclas Pettas have all been seen in attendance at SENSHI events – as recently as SENSHI 30 this past February – in several capacities; whether presenting awards, embracing media duties or holding seminars to discover and enhance travelling talent. 

“It reminds me of the K-1 days,” Sefo said. “It’s really awesome to be here. It’s been amazing to work with so many athletes that have bounced off one another. 

“I believe SENSHI has massive potential for such a young promotion. I think they’re only going to grow further in this space.”

Embracing The One-Night Tournament 

What made kickboxing a staple around the world in the 1990s and early 2000s was its love for the one-night tournament. It taps into everything that makes combat sports great. It creates superstars. Not just highlighting those who can fight, but those who are willing to put it all on the line and return once or even twice more in a singular evening for an extra dose of punches and kicks until one man stands above all.  

SENSHI has quickly made that a staple of their promotion. The latest Grand Prix took place at SENSHI 30. Zhulien Rikov stood tall to win the under-75kg tournament after the 19-year-old dispatched Carlos Barbosa, ONE Championship veteran Constantin Rusu, and Christian Baya.

Given the thrilling success, SENSHI looks to continue basking in the one-night tournament as more stars are created. 

The Recruitment Drive

Every new promotion needs stars, but SENSHI has approached their recruitment strategy a little bit differently than others. While the Bulgarian outfit welcomes ready-made stars, they hold trials with strikers from around the globe. 

For one week in February, 470 fighters from 27 countries worldwide arrived in Varna to showcase their skills and look to feature in future SENSHI events. Participants included stars from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany, Italy and more.

SENSHI’s next training camp will take place in July via the Kyoshokin World Union in Varna.

Nick Brewer, owner of The Bar Gym, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £20,000 to upgrade the gym’s facilities. The gym has been part of the Worthing community since opening its doors in 2009.

Nick Brewer is also recognised locally for organising numerous kickboxing and boxing events at the Charmandean Centre.

A Gym Built for the Community

From the beginning, The Bar Gym was designed to be more than just a traditional fitness facility.

The gym operates as a split venue, with a fully equipped strength and fitness gym downstairs and a dedicated martial arts and combat sports area upstairs. The aim was to create a space where people of all ages could train, from children taking their first class to members well into their seventies.

Over the years, the gym has grown into a key part of the local community. Parents train between school runs, teenagers develop confidence through sport, and long-time members stay active and healthy.

Competing with Corporate Gyms

The gym has been privately funded by Nick Brewer and business partner Mike O’Hagan since it opened.

However, in 2014 several large corporate gym chains arrived in Worthing, bringing modern facilities, extended opening hours, and significant marketing budgets. Competing with those larger operators has been challenging for independent gyms like The Bar Gym.

Despite the pressure, the gym has continued operating thanks to loyal members and dedicated coaches.

Producing Champions and Supporting Local Youth

The Bar Gym offers a wide range of training including boxing, kickboxing, Thai boxing, grappling, and strength and conditioning.

Over the years, the gym has produced several professional champions in mixed martial arts, Thai boxing, and kickboxing, including a professional world kickboxing champion.

Beyond competition success, the gym takes pride in its community impact. Many current members are now training alongside their children, creating multiple generations of families within the gym.

Supporting Those Who Need It Most

The gym also works with local charities and youth groups, offering heavily discounted memberships to individuals who may otherwise struggle to access training facilities.

The team has worked with young offenders and children in care, helping provide structure, discipline, and support through sport.

In addition, local youth football teams receive free memberships so players can stay fit throughout the year. The gym also offers a special NUS membership that allows teenagers aged 13–17 to train for just 30p per day.

Raising Funds for the Future

The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise £20,000 to refurbish the gym and ensure it can continue serving the Worthing community for years to come.

Cvjeticanin’s night nearly ended almost as soon as it began. In his opening bout against Sofian Laidouni, he suffered a gruesome toe dislocation that looked bad enough for the contest to be stopped immediately. Ringside doctors stepped in, and in one of the most unsettling scenes seen in combat sports, his toe was snapped back into place on the spot. Amazingly, that wasn’t the end of the story.

Despite clearly being compromised, Cvjeticanin continued the fight and gutted out a unanimous decision win to advance in the tournament. The image of him fighting with a barely functional foot quickly spread online, instantly becoming one of the defining moments of the event.

Last Heavyweight Standing turns brutal

After receiving medical clearance to continue, Cvjeticanin returned for the semifinal against Anis Bouzid. His foot was heavily bandaged, and his movement was visibly limited, but the Serbian once again refused to back down. Even with the injury, he managed to drop Bouzid late in the second round, a moment that proved crucial.

The fight went to the judges, where Cvjeticanin earned a majority decision victory to book a place in the tournament final. On the opposite side of the bracket, Mory Kromah advanced without sustaining a similar injury, setting up what should have been a dramatic finale.
