If It Ever Happened, Who Would Win: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

The former two-time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, is currently vacationing in Nigeria. In an interview with NTA News, he shared that hunger drives him. Reflecting on 2024, he sees room for growth and plans to seize new opportunities in 2025. His main focus is a fight against Tyson Fury, the Gypsy King. It’s expected to be a solid British-level bout.

Both fighters have faced Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight champion, and lost. Usyk defeated them to secure all four world titles. Now, both need a high-profile fight. Rumors suggest their bout could generate $300 million and may take place at Wembley Stadium.

At 35, when many fighters think of retirement, he has other ideas. Eddie Hearn, his promoter, mentioned two possible fights for 2025. Alongside Fury, a rematch with Dubois is on the table, possibly in Riyadh. It’s unclear which fight will happen first.

The Impact of This Fight on Both Fighters’ Careers

Entering 2025, the former two-time heavyweight champion is now looking up at his opponents rather than down on them. Fury, known for his talent, has always prioritized the big-money fights over just fighting for glory. This was clear in his proposed encounter with Usyk. He made it clear that being undisputed wasn’t his main goal. His focus was on taking home the bigger paycheck. For a fight between him and AJ to happen, there has to be serious money on the table. And AJ isn’t far behind when it comes to drawing big-money fights.

AJ was ranked number two, just behind Canelo Alvarez, as one of the highest-earning boxers. But this fight might be different for him. He knows he needs a win. Public opinion matters a lot to him, and a victory over Fury could cement his position as the number two fighter in the division. Both men have lost to Usyk, so this fight isn’t just about them. It’s also about their fans. Legacy and bragging rights are what’s truly at stake.

Who will win between Joshua and Fury in the ultimate showdown?

In my view, the idea that both fighters are faded or diminished doesn’t hold up. Let’s start with Fury. His fight against Usyk was a solid matchup. Losses are part of boxing—it’s just the nature of the sport. As for Joshua, he was caught by a big puncher, something that’s always been a possibility throughout his career. One thing we can all agree on is that this fight would still sell tickets. Both fighters are nearing the end of their careers and coming off losses, which makes it exciting to see who can still make an impact in the ring. AJ might even face Tommy Fury in his final fight—a matchup that fans would love to see.

Styles make fights, and AJ has the right style to make it a competitive bout with Fury. Fury leans heavily on dirty tactics and uses his size to bully opponents, but Joshua’s physical strength could neutralize that. AJ is stronger in the clinches and has enough power to keep Fury honest. A few years ago, I’d have given Joshua a clear edge over Fury. Now, I’m less certain, but I’d still lean toward Joshua—he’s been aiming for Fury for a long time.

Fury, for all his bravado, has a great poker face. He’s not as confident as he appears, and his loud antics often show the opposite. For instance, during his first face-off with Usyk, he couldn’t even look him in the eye. By the next one, he was pushing and mouthing off—classic signs of masking insecurity.
