Why Tommy Fury claims 2024 was the worst year of his life?

Tommy Fury will be making his much-anticipated return to the boxing ring tonight, Friday, May 9, 2025, facing Bosnian fighter Kenan Hanjalic at the MTK Arena in Budapest, Hungary. This bout marks Fury’s first fight since his victory over KSI in October 2023 and follows a challenging period that included hand surgery and personal setbacks.

In a candid interview on Good Morning Britain, boxer Tommy Fury described 2024 as the “worst year” of his life, attributing it to a combination of personal and professional challenges that deeply affected his well-being. Fury revealed that he had been silently battling a persistent hand injury since 2019, which significantly impacted his boxing performance.

The injury worsened over time, leading to a major reconstructive surgery in early 2024. This procedure sidelined him from the sport for nearly a year, stripping him of his primary outlet for stress and fulfillment. The prolonged absence from boxing left him feeling isolated and uncertain about his future in the ring.

Tommy Fury opens up on his struggle with alcohol and break up with Molly Mae

During his recovery, Fury turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with the emotional and physical toll of his injury. He admitted that his drinking escalated to the point where he would often drink to the extent of blacking out. This dependency not only affected his health but also strained his personal relationships, particularly with his fiancée, Molly-Mae Hague.

The combination of his injury and alcohol struggles led to the deterioration of his relationship with Molly-Mae Hague. The couple, who met on Love Island in 2019 and share a daughter named Bambi, announced their split in August 2024. Fury has since taken responsibility for the breakup, acknowledging his actions and inability to be the partner he aspired to be.
