Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford is all set. WBA super welterweight champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) has long made it clear he wants to move further up in weight to face the super middleweight king Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs). More positive stories have surfaced this fight was possible since Canelo met with Turki Alalshikh recently. Keith Idec at The Ring Magazine is now reporting that the megafight is on for 2025.
The Ring is reporting that an agreement is now in place for “Canelo” to defend his super middleweight titles against Crawford in what promises to be a megafight that will capture the attention of the sporting world.
Crawford will move up two weight classes as the Omaha native chases greatness against his fellow four-division champion. It will undoubtedly be the biggest challenge of “Bud’s” career, but his excellent footwork and elite ability to switch stances will pose a complex puzzle for Canelo to solve. This is a contest full of intrigue—one that will surely captivate fans.
For a time, it seemed the Mexican would not work with Saudi, let alone face Crawford, but a recent meeting with Alalshikh has yielded positive results.
Where would be Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford?
The report from The Ring also mentions that Alvarez and Crawford are expected to meet in the main event of a Riyadh Season card with a date in September to be confirmed. It’s also mentioned that the fight will take place in Las Vegas at the Allegiant Stadium.
Despite this mammoth fight being confirmed, Alvarez is still expected to fight on May 3 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in what should be no more than a tune-up bout before facing “Bud.” A clash with IBF champion William Scull could see the Guadalajara native enter the September fight as the undisputed super middleweight champion—adding another layer of intrigue to Canelo vs. Crawford.
