Max Holloway Eyes Islam Makhachev Fight After Missing Dream Match With Khabib Nurmagomedov

Max Holloway

Max Holloway is one of the most popular and entertaining fighters on the UFC roster and has been around for a long time. The veteran has fought some of the biggest names and has given some incredible wars for fans.

One of the biggest fights that Holloway was supposed to fight was against the former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, due to weight-cutting issues, the athletic commission didn’t let him fight, and fans lost that opportunity.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has now retired from fighting, but his legacy is currently carried by the current pound-for-pound number one, Islam Makhachev. During a recent interview, Holloway mentioned how he’s ready to fight the Dagestani in order to test his skills.

They asked me who you want to test yourself and test your skills against. I mean we missed the shot with Khabib, so Islam is the next big thing, so that’d be fun,” Max Holloway via UFC on Paramount.

Islam Makhachev won the welterweight championship by beating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. Currently, the fighter is focused on defending his belts against the top welterweight contenders later this year.

According to Holloway, he is ready to fight Makhachev at any weight that the UFC will provide the opportunity. However, before all that, the ‘Blessed’ needs to win against his scheduled opponent this weekend.

Max Holloway wants his revenge on Ilia Topuria

Last year, Max Holloway got brutally knocked out by Ilia Topuria while chasing the UFC featherweight championship. It was the first time the Hawaiian was ever knocked out, making it one of the most viral moments of the year.

Since then, Topuria has moved up and is currently the lightweight champion and is widely expected to defend his belt against Justin Gaethje. Ahead of that fight, Holloway recently chose which fighter among these two he would like to face next.

If I had my choice. I wanna rematch Ilia. He’s the first man to do what he did to me, and no one else could, so I’ve got to get that one back,” Max Holloway via Diana Belbita.

Max Holloway is currently scheduled to fight Charles Oliveira for the symbolic BMF title this Saturday. Going into the bout, Holloway is a slight betting favorite, and it would be interesting to see whether he can defend his title and eventually fight for the belt soon.
