Mike Tyson Says He Could Break Records at 60, Questions Young Fighters Before Floyd Mayweather Fight

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is one of the most decorated and feared heavyweight boxers of his era, who retired from boxing back in 2005. However, in 2024, the veteran decided to make a comeback against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and lost the bout.

Despite the loss, the fight was one of most streamed matches on Netflix, and Tyson took home around $20 million. While several fans were concerned about Tyson’s health, many were hyped about his next outing.

Now, at the age of 60 years old, Mike Tyson will take on undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather in the upcoming few months. Ahead of the bout, Tyson shared his views on new boxers and their mindset.

This is what fighters should be thinking right now about me. ‘How could this guy be 60 years old and can break all the records?’ They should be disappointed with themselves. They fight once and twice a year, no one knows who they are, they need to have story behind them,” Mike Tyson via The Ariel Helwani Show.

Tyson explained that this has nothing to do with boxers getting more money and that should have led them to fight more. However, according to him, new boxers aren’t interested in fighting, and the competitive nature has declined.

Terence Crawford predicts Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather

In his last bout against Jake Paul, Mike Tyson looked slow and wasn’t able to land anything on the young fighter. Many fans saw the fight as fake, and many criticized it for being a boring fight, something Tyson isn’t known for.

There were many theories regarding the fight; veteran boxer Terence Crawford has also shared his opinion. He also took the opportunity to predict how Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather can go inside the ring.

He’s not going to land a first on [Mayweather], not after his last performance. I think [Jake vs Tyson] was scripted. I’ve never seen Tyson biting his gloves like that – it was all he could do to not hit him. It’s heartbreaking to see an icon go like that. He shouldn’t have been in there at all,” Terence Crawford via JRE.

The exhibition boxing match between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather is currently targeted for April 25, 2026. The event is expected to take place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, honoring the historic 1974 Rumble in the Jungle location.

Promoters want to recreate the legendary boxing atmosphere that once surrounded Muhammad Ali and George Foreman’s 1974 historic heavyweight clash. The fight is expected to follow exhibition rules, including 8 rounds with 2-minute rounds and heavier gloves. Officials also confirmed the bout will not count toward either fighter’s professional boxing record despite massive global attention.
