Conor McGregor Sought by Irish Police for Questioning in Perjury Investigation

Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is being sought for questioning by Irish police as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged perjury connected to evidence submitted during his failed appeal against the civil case brought by Nikita Hand.

Detectives from the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation are seeking to speak with the former UFC champion after a mobile phone belonging to one of his associates was seized during the investigation. McGregor is currently in California and has been outside Ireland for several months.

McGregor himself has not been charged with perjury. His solicitor, Ciaran Mulholland, has said that McGregor is willing to cooperate with Gardaí and can speak with investigators remotely or meet them in person when he is medically fit to travel.

The investigation centres on evidence prepared for McGregor’s appeal against a High Court civil jury finding in favour of Hand in November 2024. The jury awarded Hand €248,603 in damages after finding McGregor liable in the civil case relating to an incident at Dublin’s Beacon Hotel in December 2018. McGregor denied the allegation.

Two People Charged Over Evidence Submitted for McGregor’s Appeal

Samantha O’Reilly and Steven Cummins, who provided affidavits intended to be used as fresh evidence during McGregor’s appeal, have now been charged with perjury.

O’Reilly allegedly claimed that she had witnessed an altercation involving Hand and her then-partner around the time of the 2018 incident, while Cummins said he had heard shouting and screams. The evidence was intended to provide an alternative explanation for bruising discussed during the original civil proceedings.

However, McGregor’s legal team withdrew the application to introduce the evidence immediately before the appeal hearing began in July 2025. Hand’s legal team subsequently asked the Court of Appeal to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the court made the referral.

O’Reilly, 38, faces two charges of allegedly making false statements in judicial proceedings, while Cummins, 39, faces one. Both appeared before Dublin District Court on September 29 and have yet to enter pleas. The DPP has directed that they face trial before a jury.

McGregor’s appeal was subsequently rejected, with the Supreme Court also refusing permission for a further appeal. The Garda investigation remains ongoing, with authorities now seeking to question McGregor himself.
