Tyson Fury Calls Ben Davison a ‘Traitor’ as Former Trainer Prepares Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury jokingly branded his former trainer Ben Davison a “traitor” when the two crossed paths ahead of Fury’s highly anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Davison is now part of Joshua’s team as the former two-time heavyweight champion prepares to face Fury on December 11. The trainer previously worked closely with Fury during his comeback to boxing, helping him through several fights before the pair eventually went their separate ways.

Fury appeared to see the funny side of the situation when he encountered Davison during yesterday’s fight build-up, calling his former coach a “dirty traitor” to his face.

The comment was delivered in a joking manner, but the circumstances certainly make the coaching dynamic unusual. Davison knows Fury from his time working in the former champion’s corner and will now be helping Joshua formulate a game plan to defeat him.

Joshua previously worked with Davison following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, before the trainer was replaced after Joshua’s loss to Daniel Dubois. The two have now reunited for what could be the biggest fight of Joshua’s career.

And Davison is not the only person with close ties to Fury who has been advising Joshua.

Tyson Fury’s Uncle Peter Fury Is Also Advising Joshua

Joshua has also revealed that Peter Fury, Tyson Fury’s uncle and former trainer, has been offering him advice ahead of the fight.

Peter Fury played a hugely important role in Tyson’s career, training him for his famous 2015 victory over Wladimir Klitschko, which saw Tyson become the unified heavyweight champion.

Joshua revealed that he has spoken with Peter through heavyweight boxer Matty Harris, who is trained by him. However, Joshua stressed that the advice has not involved revealing Tyson’s secrets or giving him specific information about how to beat his nephew.

Instead, Peter has been discussing Joshua’s own preparation and approach to the fight.

“Yeah, but not about Fury, but our training and our approach, how I can approach the fight,” Joshua said.

Nevertheless, the situation makes for a remarkable storyline. Fury will face Joshua knowing that his opponent is being trained by a man who previously worked in his corner, while his own uncle is also offering Joshua guidance.

With both fighters now surrounded by familiar faces from the other side, the rivalry has gained another intriguing layer ahead of their December showdown.
