Alexander Volkanovski delivered a statement performance at UFC 333, stopping previously unbeaten Movsar Evloev by second-round technical knockout to retain the UFC featherweight championship. The Australian champion secured the finish at 4:54 of the second round on October 24, 2026, at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, ending Evloev’s perfect professional record in the process.
The victory improved Volkanovski’s professional MMA record to 29-4 and extended his remarkable legacy in the featherweight division. At 38, the champion demonstrated that his striking accuracy, composure and ability to respond under pressure remain among the strongest weapons in his game.
Evloev entered the contest with a 20-0 record and a reputation for his wrestling and grappling. However, the Russian challenger was unable to turn his takedowns into sustained control, allowing Volkanovski to remain competitive before taking over the fight in the second round.

Volkanovski Turns the Fight Around in the Second Round
Evloev found opportunities to take the champion down during the opening round, briefly testing Volkanovski’s ability to defend against his wrestling. The Australian repeatedly worked his way back to his feet, preventing the challenger from establishing prolonged ground control.

Volkanovski also landed effective kicks and punches in the opening exchanges, showing that he was prepared to engage on the feet rather than simply react to Evloev’s grappling. Although Evloev had moments of success, he struggled to maintain the pressure as the fight progressed.
The decisive sequence came late in the second round. Volkanovski connected with a series of accurate punches that hurt Evloev and sent him to the canvas. The champion followed him down and unleashed ground-and-pound strikes, forcing referee Marc Goddard to intervene with just six seconds remaining in the round.
The stoppage marked Volkanovski’s first victory by knockout or technical knockout since 2023, making the finish particularly significant after several demanding contests.
With the win, Volkanovski recorded his ninth victory in a UFC featherweight title fight, matching José Aldo’s divisional record. He also strengthened his position as one of the greatest fighters in the history of the 145-pound division.
Following the fight, Volkanovski indicated that retirement was not necessarily on the immediate horizon, suggesting he could continue competing provided he had not taken too much damage.
For Evloev, the defeat represented the first loss of his professional career. For Volkanovski, it was another successful chapter in his championship reign, achieved against an undefeated contender who had presented a serious challenge on paper.
