George Jarvis Says The Man Regian Eersel Beat No Longer Exists Ahead Of The Inner Circle 33 Rematch
George Jarvis has a rule about the tape of his first fight with Regian “The Immortal” Eersel. He studies it, but not too often, because he no longer recognizes the fighter on the screen.
The 26-year-old Englishman challenges Eersel again for the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title in the main event of The Inner Circle 33 on Friday, October 2. The card airs live in Asia primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, exclusively for members at live.onefc.com.
Their first meeting last August ended in a first-round knockout. Jarvis does not believe the two-sport king did anything special that night.
“In the first fight, Eersel obviously caught me very early in the first round. I’ll say this all the time, but it’s not like he did anything particularly well. I just did everything wrong. We learned a lot from that fight. I’ve gone back and studied it. I trynot to watch it too much because I’m not the same fighter I was in that fight anymore,” Jarvis said.
“I’ve matured a lot. I’ve grown up a lot. I think the fans can see that. I’ve come back this year and proved myself. I’ve earned my shot, and I’m excited to show everyone what we already know – how good I am and that I can shock the world and take that belt.”
The proof arrived in two statement performances this year. “G-Unit” outworked Sinsamut “Aquaman” Klinmee over the distance and then flattened Rungrawee “Legatron” Sitsongpeenong inside the distance.
How the rematch is won matters little to him. Points or knockout, the only thing Jarvis wants is to leave Lumpinee with the belt around his waist.
Eersel remains the biggest challenge available, ruling both of ONE’s lightweight striking divisions at once. Yet Jarvis insists the outcome will not hinge on anything the Surinamese star brings to the ring.
“When I fight Regian again, I’m not thinking about what Regian is doing. It’s what I need to change,” Jarvis said.
“It’s me versus me. If I can get what I need to get right, then there’s no one that can stop me. I know what needs to get done, and I promise you that will get done.”
