George Jarvis vs Mouhcine Chafi Now Moved To Catchweight After Latter Misses Weight
The upcoming rematch between England’s George Jarvis and Morocco’s Mouhcine Chafi at ONE Fight Night 30 has garnered significant attention, particularly due to its catchweight stipulation. Originally scheduled as a lightweight Muay Thai bout, the fight was adjusted to a catchweight after Chafi faced challenges meeting the hydration requirements during the official weigh-ins. The news was confirmed by Jarvis on Instagram.
Chafi was the last fighter to pass hydration, completing the process outside the designated window around 12:30 am on Friday. Demonstrating sportsmanship and a commitment to the bout, Jarvis accepted the catchweight arrangement, stating, “I’ve not worked this hard to come home empty-headed, so catchweight it is. The same outcome remains.” As a result of the weight discrepancy, Jarvis will receive 20% of Chafi’s purse.
This fight holds additional significance as a rematch; Chafi previously defeated Jarvis in 2021 for the WBC European Muay Thai title. Since that encounter, Jarvis has achieved a three-fight win streak in ONE Championship, including a notable TKO victory over Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong, which earned him a six-figure contract with the organization. Chafi, on the other hand, aims to rebound from two consecutive losses and reestablish his standing in the division.
