Israel Adesanya Says Conor McGregor Vs Justin Gaethje Would “Feed Countries”

Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya believes a potential showdown between Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje would be one of the biggest fights the sport has ever seen.

Speaking on Demetrious Johnson’s podcast, Adesanya was asked about dream matchups involving McGregor. The former champion immediately pointed to Gaethje as the ideal opponent, claiming the fight would generate enormous interest across the combat sports world.

“Conor and Gaethje would feed families, it would feed countries. That would be crazy. It would feed everybody,” Adesanya said.

The comments quickly caught the attention of MMA fans, many of whom have long viewed the matchup as one of the most exciting fights the UFC could make.

A Dream Fight Built For Violence

Despite competing during the same era, McGregor and Gaethje have never stepped into the Octagon together. There have been several occasions when the fight appeared possible, particularly during McGregor’s reign near the top of the lightweight division, but negotiations and changing circumstances prevented the bout from becoming a reality.

Stylistically, it is easy to understand why Adesanya is so enthusiastic about the matchup.

McGregor built his career on elite striking, devastating left-hand power and an ability to finish opponents in spectacular fashion. The Irish superstar became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion and remains one of the biggest draws in combat sports history.

Gaethje, meanwhile, has earned a reputation as one of the most entertaining fighters the sport has ever seen. The former interim lightweight champion has been involved in countless wars throughout his UFC career and recently added another marquee victory to his résumé by defeating Ilia Topuria at the UFC White House event.

A fight between the pair would pit two of MMA’s most aggressive and dangerous strikers against each other. Both men possess knockout power, both thrive in chaotic exchanges and neither is known for taking a cautious approach inside the cage.

Whether the UFC can make the fight happen remains uncertain, especially with McGregor’s competitive future still unclear. However, Adesanya’s comments echo the feelings of many fans who believe the contest would be an instant blockbuster.

If McGregor ever returns to the Octagon, few matchups would generate more excitement than a long-awaited clash with Gaethje. As Adesanya put it, it is the kind of fight that could “feed countries.”
