Oleksandr Usyk Rules Out Moses Itauma Fight, Plans to Retire at 41 and Build Sports Academy

Oleksandr Usyk has made it clear that he will not be facing British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma. The undisputed heavyweight champion confirmed that he intends to continue fighting until the age of 41 before stepping away from competition to open a sports academy where he plans to train and mentor young athletes.

Speaking about the potential matchup, Usyk said, “No, I won’t fight Itauma. He’s young — always teasing me. And he said himself he doesn’t hit grandpas. I’ll fight until I’m 41. Then I’ll build a sports academy — I’ll train there and train others.” His comments, shared via Ring Magazine, highlight both his humor and respect for the younger generation.

At 38, Usyk stands as one of the sport’s modern greats. He became the undisputed cruiserweight champion before moving up to heavyweight, where he captured world titles and solidified his status as one of boxing’s pound-for-pound elites. With his dominance in both divisions and a flawless professional record, Usyk’s legacy is already secure. His focus now appears to be on finishing his career on his own terms while preparing to contribute to the sport’s future through coaching and development.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Moses Itauma continues to rise as one of Britain’s brightest prospects. Holding the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title, Itauma has impressed fans with his speed, composure, and knockout power, extending his professional record to 13–0. Despite speculation about a possible showdown, Itauma has repeatedly expressed admiration for Usyk, noting that he would rather learn from the champion than fight him at this stage.

While fans may never see Usyk and Itauma share the ring, both fighters represent two generations of boxing — one defining greatness, and the other building toward it.
