“Smash My Face”- Islam Makhachev Says Fear Of Losing Keeps Him Hungry Ahead of UFC 330
Islam Makhachev will be making his Octagon return later this month at UFC 330 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The Dagestani will take on top contender Ian Garry in a much-anticipated welterweight title showdown.
Makhachev’s last fight was against Jack Della Maddalena where he beat the Australian to win the belt. Now the pound-for-pound king is on an incredible 16-fight undefeated streak and has no plans to stop.
Following Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev has successfully continued the Dagestani legacy in the UFC. The fighter is slowly building his place as one of the best fighters of all time and recently talked about his motivation.
“At first, my dream was to become UFC champion. Then I wanted the most lightweight title defenses. After that, I wanted to become a double champion. Now I’m a double champion with a 16-17 fight win streak, tied with Anderson Silva. Maybe breaking that record is what motivates me now. But what really motivates me is knowing if I step into the cage unprepared, someone’s going to smash my face. That’s why I have to stay focused and keep training hard,” said Islam Makhachev via Game Set Padel Podcast.
Unlike his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev has previously suffered a defeat via knockout against Adriano Martins. Since then the fighter has definitely developed however, Makhachev understands the unpredictability of the sport.
Earlier this year fans saw two undefeated champions Khamzat Chimaev and Ilia Topuria losing their belts in brutal fashion. It would be interesting to see whether Makhachev can manage to continue his dominant reign after UFC 300.

Islam Makhachev questions Ian Garry’s provocative comments
Going into UFC 330, Islam Makhachev is the fan favourite to win the fight against Ian Garry given his incredible momentum. Garry on the other hand is confident about his chances and has actively made provocative comments against the champion.
In a recent interview, Islam Makhachev talked about these comments and shared how he really feels about Garry. “He looks very bad in this interview, better he does training more and less interview. It look like somebody in the house control him and tell him what to say in the interview,” said Islam Makhachev via MMA Junkie.
For Garry it’s an opportunity to double down on the rivalry between Ireland and Dagestan, which was started by Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Despite the animosity, he has shown respect for Makhachev’s fighting style but is eager to dethrone the long-standing pound-for-pound king.
