Two Martial Arts Dynasties Collide As Christian Lee Meets Tye Ruotolo
When Tye Ruotolo made his MMA debut in ONE, he handed Adrian “The Phenom” Lee the first loss of his career. Now he gets a crack at Adrian’s older brother, and this time a world title is attached.
Reigning ONE Lightweight and Welterweight MMA World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee defends his lightweight belt against Ruotolo at The Inner Circle 37 on Friday, November 6, inside Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium. The event airs exclusively for members at live.onefc.com.
Both men come from world-famous martial arts families. Ruotolo, 23, is the twin brother of reigning ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion Kade Ruotolo, who is also unbeaten in MMA.
That debut against Adrian ended with a second-round rear-naked choke. Less than two and a half months later, the Tenore product needed under three minutes to put away Shozo Isojima and move to 2-0.
Christian, 28, has carried the Lee name on ONE’s biggest stages for more than a decade. The Singaporean-American from Prodigy Training Center debuted in the promotion in 2015 at just 17.
In May 2019, he rallied to beat Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki for lightweight gold, becoming the youngest male MMA World Champion in ONE history. A loss to Ok Rae Yoon cost him the belt briefly, but he corrected it emphatically in their rematch.
His most recent outing last year was a rematch defense against Alibeg Rasulov that left no room for debate. Across an 18-4 career, he has finished 17 opponents, 11 of them inside the first round.
Ruotolo built his reputation as the ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Champion and one of the most feared grapplers alive. In only his third MMA fight, he can become the first ONE Submission Grappling World Champion to capture an MMA World Title inthe promotion.
That makes the stakes historic for the challenger. For Christian, they are also unmistakably personal.
His younger brother’s first defeat still sits on the Ruotolo ledger. Keeping his belt on November 6 would ensure a second Lee does not join it, and keep his own record-setting reign rolling.
