Duangdawnoi Fought Through Family Turmoil And Now Wants Her ONE Contract
Two days before Duangdawnoi “Little Star” Looksaikongdin faced Yana Yip, her brother-in-law Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon lost to Takeru “Natural Born Krusher” Segawa at ONE SAMURAI 1 in Japan. The shockwave hit the Looksaikongdin household, and she stillfound a way to win.
The 27-year-old Thai now faces Swiss veteran Aline Seiberth in the atomweight Muay Thai co-main event of The Inner Circle 33 on Friday, October 2. The card streams from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok exclusively for members at live.onefc.com.
Duangdawnoi grew up in a household of 16 sibling fighters, and her younger brother Sangarthit Looksaikongdin also competes in ONE. That upbringing prepared her for pressure, but the noise around the Yip fight was something else.
“Honestly, there was a lot of pressure coming from all sides, especially on social media, so I was feeling pretty tense. Rodtang had just finished his fight in Japan around that time too, so I couldn’t really fight like myself. But I tried not to take any unnecessaryrisks in the ring,” Duangdawnoi said.
“I knew I was going to win, but taking big risks would’ve been a bad idea, so I just controlled the pace. I didn’t really go all-in for the finish because the whole atmosphere was just super stressful.”
She took the unanimous decision anyway, keeping alive a perfect run that began with wins over Kim “Lil K” Townsend and Regan “Coconut” Gowing. Seiberth, a 35-year-old with 30 career wins and the WBC Muay Thai European Championship, makes her ONE debut.
Duangdawnoi’s ambitions stretch well beyond this weekend. A win would put her in line for a main roster contract, and she already has a future opponent in mind in Erika Bomogao, the fighter she calls Islay.
“My main goal for this fight is to earn a contract. My goal is identical to Islay’s [Erika Bomogao]. I really want them to open up this weight division. There are plenty of smaller fighters out there, and if they open the division, it’d be amazing to fightfor a title. Getting a contract would be a huge step,” she said.
“If I get to fight Islay, I’m 100 percent ready. Assuming I win this fight and get the contract, all I can say to her is: ‘Wait for me, I’m coming for you. I’m waiting for you!'”
