Over the last few years, boxing has changed dramatically. With the huge popularity in Youtubers, when they have given it a go in boxing, they seem to bring in more engagement than a top-level professional bout. So-much-so, that there are now promotions like Misfits promoting such events.

But just when we thought we had seen it all and boxing couldn’t get any worse, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul announce they are fighting each other in a new Netflix streamed boxing bout.

Tyson, who is in his late 50’s, is well past him prime. And Paul, as much as he is proving he is no longer just a Youtuber, he has nowhere near the legacy Tyson had achieved. Lets face it, he wasn’t named ‘The baddest man on the planet’ for nothing.

He was so feared even people watching from their sofa would get nervous. In his 58 professional fights, 44 of his opponents were left getting up off the canvas.

So, why is Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fighting?

Put simply, money!

Mike Tyson will gain nothing other than a hefty paycheck from this fight. His retired. He simply must miss that buzz of being in the ring.

For Jake Paul, his career is still early doors, and it seems he only wants to fight the biggest names possible, making the biggest headlines, rather than fighting active fighters in the rankings.

However, the fact the Tyson vs Paul fight is going ahead is a true indication that there is no organisation governing the sport.

This fight is simply a lose-lose situation for both fighters. If Jake Paul wins, he has beat a man who is knocking on 60 and well past his prime.

And if he loses, he could be beaten badly; after all, we know how hard Tyson can hit. And as they say, the last thing a boxer is to lose is their punch. However, if Mike Tyson was to win, he has beaten a former Youtuber, no where the level of opponent like when he thought a giant like Frank Bruno.

Promoter of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn spoke out saying:

“This is sad for boxing!”

Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan also criticised this fight saying:

“You can be sure money’s got something to do with it!”

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul: Who will win?

Jake Paul’s boxing has massively improved over recent years, demonstrating he can go the distance with Tommy Fury, who is considered a professional boxer.

He has got speed, strength, and fitness should definitely be on his side. Yet, Mike Tyson, well, it’s Iron Mike.

He has had some mixed opinions about this fight. Some have suggested he shouldn’t be fighting as he has been seen with a walking stick. 

Yet, others have suggested Jake Paul should be the one pulling out after Tysons training videos ammerge. His showing he still does have it in his locker.

This fight really could be anyone’s. It all depends what Mike Tyson we see on the day.
