“Supposed To Fight”- Joe Rogan Backs Michael Chandler As Potential Opponent For Conor McGregor’s UFC Return
Earlier this year, Conor McGregor made his much-anticipated UFC comeback against former BMF champion Max Holloway. After almost five years of hiatus, fans were eager to see the ‘Notorious’ in action against a former opponent.
However, the reality was different as McGregor injured his knee in the first round and lost the bout in an anticlimactic way. Following that, McGregor has had surgery and has given a positive response about coming back next year.
While many are sceptical, there have been conversations about who McGregor should fight if he finally returns. UFC veteran commentator Joe Rogan recently talked about it in detail and shared his opinion and backed Michael Chandler.
“Look, if Conor McGregor really does come back a year from now, I think he wants to fight Max Holloway. ‘I’ve got to finish what I’ve started!’ But really, [Michael] Chandler was the right fight for him anyway because they did The Ultimate Fighter together. They were supposed to fight a long time ago. They were supposed to fight forever ago,” said Joe Rogan via his podcast.
Chandler and McGregor have already gone against each other as coaches in the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter. Both were planned to fight at UFC 303, but McGregor pulled out due to a toe injury.
Chandler is currently on a four-fight losing streak and got knocked out by Maurício Ruffy in his last Octagon outing. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see whether UFC considers this as correct matchmaking in the future.

Despite his inactivity and last loss, Conor McGregor is still the biggest draw on the UFC roster. As expected, any fighter will be pleased to fight the Irishman for the paycheck and global recognition.
Given the opportunity, the current UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje is also ready to take that fight. “If it came to my table, I would entertain it. But I would doubt that. He’s going through his own stuff. I don’t even want to talk down on that guy anymore. I’ve done it. That doesn’t work because I’ve tried,” said Justin Gaethje via UFC.
Gaethje became the reigning champion by beating Ilia Topuria in the main event of UFC Freedom 250. Now he’s being chased by all the top lightweight contenders to get that title shot. Some of the top names include Arman Tsarukyan, Paddy Pimblett, etc and fans are excited for these matchups.
